Sheila O'Donovan is a Registered Psychotherapist, Registered Art Therapist, Clinical Trauma Specialist and an Accredited Family Mediator. She has been in practice for 24 years working with children, adolescents and their families. Sheila specializes in grief and trauma work. She has been recognized as an expert witness in the Family Court system at assessing the emotional needs of children from separated and divorced families.
Sheila works with children and their families dealing with a variety of different issues. Referrals come to her through School Personnel, Pediatricians, Family Lawyers, other Therapists and Mental Health Agencies within the community and surrounding area. Sheila has extensive experience working with children with complex trauma and attachment needs and approaches the families she engages with through an attachment lens.
Sheila is passionate about her work and has seen art therapy provide healing and repair for several of the clients she has worked with. Art therapy is a safe and effective way to work with clients of all ages. Drawing utilizes the right side of the brain, where our sensory and emotional experiences are stored. Art as a tool in therapy can help access issues much quicker than just talking.
In addition, Sheila assists couples who are separating to develop a parenting plan that will best serve their child(ren) based on their developmental stage and age. Sheila is an Accredited Family Mediator.
